I'm asking everyone to not watch the upcoming movie Split. Why?
The movie industry is constantly portraying those with multiple personalities as serial killers and rapists. It couldn't be farther from the truth! Yes, really.
It's not entertainment at this point, it's stigmatizing, steriotyping, and ostracizing those with a mental illness. Because of this overused troupe, the general public views those with DID (multiple personalities) and other mental illnesses as people to be feared, avoided, and locked away.
Please stand with me and #boycottsplit. Don't watch it at the theater, don't rent it on dvd, and ask your friends to do the same. Maybe we can get our voices heard about this issue, maybe we can let the movie industry know that the stigma will not be tolerated, or maybe we can just let our friends who suffer from mental illness know that we accept them. Let's shine some truth and light about DID for once!
I have DID. In order to spread awareness instead of lies, I'm boycotting this movie.
